Slumdog Millionaire Awards...

"An underdog movie about a little guy overcoming life's enormous obstacles swept the Oscars Sunday night, as Slumdog Millionaire racked up eight Academy Awards, including those for Best Picture and for its Director, Danny Boyle." (People Magazine)

I have to rave about this film, it's my favorite film of the year. If you haven't yet seen it... you must get out there and watch it! CONGRATS to everyone involved in the making and production of this AWARD WINNING film.

Mamie Gâteaux- Out with the gals!

OH NO!! They're out to lunch in Paris.... AGAIN!!!

I just LOVE the reflection of the apartment building in restaurant's window.

Since there are sooo many places in Paris that we have not yet discovered (plus, Aimee's is closed for the vacances), we decided to try out this cute little Salon du Thé on the recommendation of Paris expert and Parisophile, Carol @ Paris Breakfasts.

This place didn't disappoint.  It was very cute, quaint and cozy!  It was also very easy to find and less than 5 minutes from the metro Saint Placide.

What's on the menu for today?! Hmmmmm....

Here are Barbara and Andrea!

The first one is my tarte au thon/espinards/curry (like a quiche) and the second one is a cake salé. "Cake" in French doesn't necessary mean the same as a "cake" in English... We think of the word, gâteau for the American word cake, mostly... However, gâteau in French can also mean - cookies/biscuits or small cakes you buy in packages that people often eat for breakfast with their morning coffee or at afternoon goûter. Cake salé is more like a savory and spongy texture cake made in a love pan and cut into slices to be served at lunch/dinner.

They had a really yummy looking array of desserts on the counter right behind us. I skipped out on dessert this time (WHAT?!) because my tarte au thon/epinards/curry was quite satisfying! It also came with a carrot salad with a light olive oil vinagrette which was light and delish, and a few leaves of lettuce. A pretty healthy and hearty meal, I must say!

At the end of our time together, we posed for pics in front of Mamie's. Neither Elizabeth nor I are pictured here 'cuz we were too busy snapping away!

So, here are: Barbara, Noëlle, and Andrea.

BAGELS & BROWNIES in Paris

Yesterday, as Barbara and I were making our way over to Mamie Gâteaux Salon du The for a get together with the "gals," we stumbled upon this cute little place, "Bagels & Brownies." It's just off the metro Saint Placide in the 6th. I've been past here several times but it's always been when they are closed, so I took the opportunity, seeing that they were open, to stop by with Babara. The window display showed an array of thick and fudgey brownies, muffins, chocolate chip cookies and other baked goodies. Going inside, they had containers of fresh bagel add-ins (for bagel sandwiches) such as onions, tomatoes, lettuce, sandwich meats, mayo, mustard, cream cheese, etc.
In their cake display counter were more sinfully delicious looking fudge brownies and to my surprise, a NY style cheesecake, made with none other than Philly cream cheese! There were quite a few people gathering inside for lunch and the place was starting to get busy. I spoke with the manager there (owner?) who was very sweet. I asked if I could take a few pics for my blog and passed on my card to her to check out!
Needless to say, I bought 6 very appetizing bagels, nothing like the bagels in the Marais. The bagels here looked exactly like the California style bagels I'm used to. I can't wait to try them out! I have a strong feeling we'll be coming back here again in the near future to have one of their fresh bagel sandwiches!! This cute shop is only about a 5 minutes walk from the Starbucks in Montparnasse.
Here's the contact info if you're craving any of Bagel and Brownie's treats!

Red Velvet Cake Balls

These are made from the Red Velvet cake recipe I found on Cake on The Brain's blog- HERE.  But, for the recipe and explanation, please visit Bakerella's blog,  HERE for the scoop on these beauties.  Be sure to read through the comments on her post as you will find LOTS of very useful info about making these.m  Mine came out fine, I didn't have any problem with the consistency of the cake when making them into balls... A big warning, however;  these babies are SUPER SWEET!!!!
Here are some more that I made.
